Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1951). "If you think we're waxworks, you ought to pay, you know. If you think we're alive, you ought to speak to us. From the scene found at the 13:00 mark of Alice in Wonderland, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum interrupt Alice's chase of the White Rabbit in this outstanding original concept painting by Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). Exhibiting a rich depth of field using contrasting colors and shapes, Mary Blair's distinct and unmatchable style and flair is on full display in this piece of Alice in Wonderland production art. A key player in the color and design choices of the films on which she works, Mary Blair's effect on character also can't be understated. The expressive, back-leaning poses of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum make for perfect caricatures, created by using only a few masterful brushstrokes. Simply stunning, the painting is rendered in gouache on 9.5" x 8.5" illustration board. The board shows handling and edge wear, with some mild debris.
