    Description

Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Concept/Color Key Painting (Walt Disney, 1951). Mary Blair was born in Oklahoma, and this lot comes from an Oklahoma estate. In the book Queens of Animation, the author Nathalia Holt writes on page 200, "Mary soon became lost in her work, to everything around her, as she created hundreds of paintings. Mary Blair's hedge maze at the Queen of Hearts castle is one of the elements in her work that remained and can be seen in the final film." This is an early Mary Blair concept/Color Key painting of Alice in the maze with the cards on the other side... "Painting the Roses Red". You can see the red paint brush just above the hedge maze. Gouache on board of 8" x 6". Minor edge wear and pinholes in corners. The individual hearts of the maze had to be so time consuming! Good condition.
