Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland Cheshire Cat Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1951). If I were looking for a White Rabbit, I'd ask the Mad Hatter!" The Cheshire Cat has a little fun with Alice when they meet in her search for the White rabbit. He was voiced by the great Sterling Holloway. This whimsical scene appears around the 40:39 mark in Disney's animated adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice stories. This is an original concept/Color Key painting of Alice and the Cheshire Cat by renowned Disney artist and color stylist Mary Blair. It's an unusually large piece painted by Ms. Blair in gouache on 19.5" x 58.5" board. The Cheshire cat is always a draw for collectors and a one-of-a-kind piece of him with Alice by Mary Blair is a collector's dream. Everything about this painting is spectacular, from the characters to the composition and especially the uncharacteristically the bright colors. Minor scruffs, handling, and pinholes. Condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
