The Three Little Pigs Fifer Pig Carousel Ride Figure (Walt Disney, 1950s-60s). After Mickey Mouse, the next superstars of the Walt Disney Company were the Three Little Pigs. Their first self-titled short was released on 5/27/33, directed Bert Gillett. It went on to win the Academy Award for Best Cartoon Short. In Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons, this cartoon was placed at #11. In 2007, the film was selected for preservation in the US for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. The cartoon proved so popular, that three more were made with the main characters: The Big Bad Wolf (1934); The Three Little Wolves (1936); and The Practical Pig (1939). This is a rare hand-carved painted wooden carousel figure of Fifer Pig. It was done by Belgium wood carver Bernard Kindt. He was born in 1934 in Herseaux, Belgium. He made many carousel figures that were seen in Germany, France, Great Britain, and the US. His work has been seen using several Disney characters, including Bambi, and Popeye as well. His work in Disney characters seems to be hard to find. This is a great early carousel sculpture featuring one of the early superstars of the Disney Studio. Overall size is approximately 34" x 18", and about 21" tall. Some paint wear due to age and use. Fair to Good condition.
