Description

The Black Cauldron Taran and Cauldron Maquettes Group (Walt Disney, 1985). "Legend has it, in the mystic land of Prydain, there was once a king so cruel and so evil that even the gods feared him. Since no prison could hold him, he was thrown alive into a crucible of molten iron. There, his demonic spirit was captured in the form of a great black cauldron." So begins Disney's darkest fantasy, the cult-classic animated film The Black Cauldron. For the ultimate fan of this once-overlooked but now revered film, here are two rare maquettes used in during the film's production. The Black Cauldron itself is one of these ultra-rare maquettes, one of only a very few made for studio use. This cauldron, plus a bust of Taran, come from the personal collection of the film director and one of the film's writers, Ted Berman (1919 - 2001), who began his career at Disney in the 1940s, where he stayed for nearly 50 years. The Cauldron stands about 9" tall, and about 14" wide, including the skeleton head handles. One of the claws from the Cauldron's feet has broken off and is missing. The maquette of Taran is about 4.75" tall, with a minor scratch on back. Overall condition is Very Good for these remarkable treasures.
