Pinocchio Unused Asian Chef Maquette (Walt Disney, 1940). Joe Grant started his character model department and began making animation maquettes for Disney. These were done to give everyone working on a film specific 3D reference. This practice of making these models continue today. His initial models made at the Walt Disney Company are highly coveted. This is a very rare (and politically incorrect) Asian chef character that was dropped from the film Pinocchio. Bottom of the base reads "Return to Character Department" with a large #1. The maquette has been recently painted. The chef stands 8" on a circular base of 4". Characters that don't make the final cut as a Walt Disney Studio handmade maquette are very rare. Minor handling. Very Good condition.
