I Wanna Be a Sailor Peter/Patrick Parrot Wall Hanger (Warner Brothers, c. 1930s). "I don't want a cracker, I wanna be a sailor like me pop!" says Peter Parrot to his mother as she is trying to teach all three of her children to say "Polly want a cracker." This short was directed by Tex Avery, with animation by Bob Clampett, -- boy, what a duo! The short was released on 9/25/30. This lot is thought to be one of the earliest pieces of licensed product coming from Leon Schlesinger's Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. A series of plaster wall hangings of the early stars of this series was released in the late 1930s; they were used as string holders, with a hole in front and space for a ball of string or twine in the back. One of the characters released was Peter Parrot, also known as Patrick Parrot in later merchandising (a Patrick Parrot cartoon series was at one time considered by the studio). This is the original plaster wall hanger of Peter/Patrick Parrot. There is no studio identification on it, or any other markings, but it is clearly the WB cartoon character. This is the only one we have ever seen surface. Plaster items like this will shatter when dropped, and this is a rather obscure character, which probably accounts for their scarcity. Great full-figure image size of 10.5". One of the rarest vintage Looney Tunes-Merrie Melodies pieces we have come across. Minor handling and paint crazing. Very Good condition.
