    Description

Elmer Fudd Specialty Maquette (Warner Brothers, 1942). This unusual piece requires a bit of history, cartoon-style. Egghead was the earliest reoccurring character for Leon Schlesinger's Merrie Melodies. His first appearance is in a Tex Avery short, Egghead Rides Again (1937). With the 1939 short Dangerous Dan McFoo, actor Arthur Q. Bryan came on board, and his distinctive voice was perfect for the newly redesigned character now known as Elmer Fudd. Although there's been a lot of discussion on where the "Elmer" name came from, we believe it might be from the 1930s Al Pierce radio show character, Elmer Blurt. Now, back to this auction lot -- it's as rare a piece of Looney Tunes memorabilia as we have ever stumbled upon. This is a rare one-of-a-kind handmade Elmer maquette. It is 9" tall and 3" wide, on a base that reads "Elmer." He is holding a diploma and is in a graduation gown (his graduation cap is missing). This all hand-painted plaster maquette has a plaque on the back that reads "Awarded to Carl Schroeder For Nothing At All, Copyright 1942 by Leon Schlesinger." Talk about unique and rare! Minor handling, some paint loss. Considering the vintage and age, considered Very Good condition.
