Description

Dr. Seuss "Flaming Herring" Limited Edition Sculpture #233/850 (Theodor Geisel, 2011). In 1937 Standard Oil wanted something interesting for their booth at the boat show being held in New York City. Theodor Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) was commissioned, and he created a collection of seven "Marine Muggs" sculptures to display in the Esso Marine booth. Offered here is a limited edition reproduction of one of these fanciful aquatic creatures titled "Flaming Herring". It is part of the posthumously released "Unorthodox Taxidermy" series. The hand-cast and hand-painted resin sculpture measures 22.5" x 16" x 6.5", mounted to a wood plaque and hand-numbered #233/850. This adorable sea creature from the mind of Theodor Geisel is a true testament to the artist's inventive and multidimensional creativity. Note: this lot contains one sculpture. Minor handling and there is evidence of professional restoration. Condition is Very Good.
