Louie the Lightning Bug "Play It Safe" PSA TV Commercial Production Cel (Kurtz, c. 1990s) "You gotta play it safe around electricity!" This popular series of musical public service announcements will be familiar to any kid who grew up watching cartoons in the 1980s and 1990s. Be-bopping insect Louie the Lightning Bug travels around the house and points out electricity danger zones to kids, with the help of singing "inanimate" objects. Jack Sheldon (of Merv Griffin Show and Schoolhouse Rock fame) leant his singing voice to the ads, providing the voice Louie himself. In this whimsical hand-inked, hand-painted production cel, a trio of buck-toothed extension cords proved back-up for Louie's singing - and warn kids not to stick fingers OR keys into power outlets. Very large image area measures 9" x 6". Award-winning director/ animator Bob Kurtz has signed the bottom right corner of the cel. Cels have been placed over a print background for presentation purposes. In Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
