DescriptionLittle Hiawatha Production Cel with Master Background (Walt Disney, 1937). This Silly Symphony cartoon short was inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "The Song of Hiawatha". It was the last Silly Symphony released by United Artists. Some of the animators on this beautiful film were Ollie Johnston, Frank Thomas, and Fred Moore. The short was directed by David Hand and released on 5/15/37. This is an outstanding hand-inked hand-painted production cel of Little Hiawatha, with his bow in hand. He first dons his bow after jumping off his canoe where he encounters the forest animals around the 1:57 mark. Great full figure image of 3". The cel is trimmed to image and placed on a trimmed production background. The background is done by none other than Gustaf Tenggren. In the book by Didier Ghez They Drew As They Please – The Art of Disney's Golden Age (The 1930's) the author writes "At Disney, aside from his work on Snow White, Tenggren was also busy tackling many of Disney's best shorts, including Moth and Flame, the abandoned Silly Symphony cartoon Ballet des Fleurs, Little Hiawatha and The Old Mill. The trimmed Master background can be seen around the 5:54 mark into the short. Artwork is in a mat of 12 ½" x 14 ½". A clear cover cel protects the production cel and trimmed background. Very Good condition, mat sold as is.
