Little Hiawatha 4052 Air Field Maintenance Insignia Drawing Original Art (Walt Disney, c. 1940s). In the book Disney Dons Dog Tags - The Best of Military Insignia From World War II, a chapter is on Little Hiawatha and Native American Indians usage for insignias. It states in the book that "The very first American Military insignia to be used on an airplane was an Indian head symbol designed by the legendary Lafayette Escadrille in World War I." This is an original Hank Porter (1900 - 1951) drawing of Little Hiawatha used for the 4052 Air Field Maintenance Group. Great graphite and blue pencil artwork, measuring 7" on onionskin paper measuring 8" x 9". Paper is marked 1154. This image can be seen in Characters of Military insignia book on page 202. Minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition.Auction Info
