The Three Caballeros "Las Posadas" Limited Edition Cel 5/250 (Walt Disney/Courvoisier Galleries, 1945). "No, Donald not Jingle Bells. In Mexico they sing Las Posadas." In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt personally asked Walt Disney to do a public relations campaign for South America. Walt took 16 artists, animators, writers, and musicians to five countries, for ten weeks. This trip resulted in the making of two of the Studio's package films -- 1942's Saludos Amigos, and 1945's The Three Caballeros. It depicts children from the "Las Posadas" segment of the of The Three Caballeros which told of Mexico's Christmas traditions. It used only the still paintings of artist Mary Blair animating only the candle flames. Because there were no cels, Disney created original limited edition cels made especially for Courvoisier Galleries. Presented here is an original hand-inked hand-painted cel of two children who measure 3" x 4". The cel is over a simple airbrush background and WDP is hand-inked in the lower right corner. It is in its original 13" x 15" Courvoisier mat and backing board. Walt Disney was so fond of Mary Blair's artwork for this segment that he allowed it to be licensed to Hallmark for use on Christmas cards that year. Minor handling, some rippling on the cel and a 3" x 3" x 5" portion of the backing board has been torn away. Condition is Very Good.More Information: EDIT: Typo corrected.
