Mulan Mushu and Cri-Kee Disney Feature Film employee-exclusive Limited Edition Cel #4 (Walt Disney, 1998). "Wait, you forgot your sword!" Cri-Kee and Mushu look on as their "little baby" Mulan, has gone off to her first day of military training, in this limited-edition cel setup commemorating Walt Disney Pictures' Mulan, offered exclusively to cast and crew members of the Feature Animation department. Mulan (1998) follows the titular hero in an animated, coming of age, musical plot inspired by the legendary Chinese folk-heroine, Hua-Mulan. In the original tales, Mulan did not have animal companions, and it was Roy E. Disney that suggested the character of Mushu, while Joe Grant created and championed Cri-Kee. In honor of the full-length, feature film, a limited edition of 49 hand-painted, character cel set-ups was published, inspired by artwork from Mulan, a film that didn't use cel in its production. This "Mushu and Cri-Kee" cel set-up showcases the small, disgraced family guardian dragon and pet cricket, in a recreation of Sequence 8.7, Scene 21.0 of the motion picture. After drawings were transferred to cels using a six-step xerographic process, cels were enhanced with traditional techniques that included hand-inked lines and Disney-approved acrylic colors, applied by the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department on the studio lot. The inked and painted cel set-up of the lovable friends is presented atop a faithful reproduction print of the original, delicate grassy field background. This enchanting Walt Disney Feature Animation artwork numbered "4", was published in 1998. The gallant, supportive friends have a painted image size of 13" x 7.75" on a cel sheet and are presented matted within a frame measuring 22" x 16.25". This rare, retired edition is in Fine condition and is accompanied by its Certificate of Authenticity, while the frame is sold as-is, with photos not representative of the actual condition. This collectible Walt Disney Animation Artifact is a powerful testament to the power of enduring friendship as presented in the Disney Renaissance-era masterpiece that is, Mulan!
