Mickey Mouse Mystery in Disneyville and Donald Duck's Safety Book Little Golden Book Preliminary Cover Trio with Preliminary Mickey Mouse Drawing by Disney Legend Manuel Gonzales (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1949/1954/1950s). This lot is a trip back in time with two preliminary cover pages for the little golden books Mickey's Mystery in Disneyville (1949) and Donald Duck's Safety Book (1954) as well as a preliminary Mickey Mouse drawing from the 1950s. All were created by Disney Legend Manuel Gonzales (1913 - 1993) with an additional rough sketch for the 1949 book cover on a page of script from chapter 1, "The Painting Race". The preliminary drawing of Mickey may have been created for the first chapter due to the painting and Mickey appearing in a similar outfit, or it may be from a separate children's novel. Disneyville was an early name for the town where Mickey and his friends lived and was primarily used in the 1930s-40s, making artwork that features it a prize for collectors. The drawings are rendered in graphite with color pencil and are rendered on paper and tracing paper ranging from 8.5'' x 11'' to 12.5'' x 15.5''.
