Fantasia 2000 "Sprite of Spring" Limited Edition Cel #119/150 (Walt Disney, 2000). In this lot may be the single most difficult cel ever painted by the Disney Ink and Paint Department. It has thirty different inked color lines and forty-three different paint colors. This is a 16 field, hand-inked and painted, limited edition cel titled "Sprite of Spring," created using actual archived animation drawings from the Disney Animation Research Library. It is from Sequence 5.1, Scene 2.3 of the "Firebird Suite" section that was introduced by Angela Lansbury. This sequel to Disney's 1940 Fantasia had its world premiere at Carnegie Hall on 12/17/99. Disney followed with live orchestra premiers in London, Paris, Tokyo, and Pasadena, California. It then went into seventy-five IMAX theaters from 1/1/2000 - 4/30/2000 and eventually hit general release in regular theaters on 6/16/2000. This complex cel is #119 of an edition of only 150 and was an instant sell out. Very few come up for sale. It's framed with a mat opening of 10" x 16" and the Sprite takes up almost the full 16 field cel. The overall frame measures 22" x 29". There were no hand-painted production cels used in this film, so this edition of 150 are some of the only Sprite cels to exist. It comes complete with a Disney seal and Certificate of Authenticity.
