Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Grinch and Max Animation Drawings Group of 2 (MGM 1966). "You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch." Here are two original production drawings of the Grinch and Max from just seconds apart in this classic holiday TV special. In this scene the Grinch prepares his dog Max's reindeer costume by tying antlers to his head and these images can be seen at the 9:33 and 9:47 marks respectively. Each is an enormous, tightly rendered in graphite drawing on 12 field 3-peghole animation paper. The Grinch measures 7.5" x 6.5" and is numbered 5 in the lower right corner. The full-figure profile of Max measures 5" x 4.5" and is numbered 44. They are two incredible images from one of the funniest scenes in this timeless Christmastime favorite. Both show minor handling and Max's paper has been trimmed and repositioned with clear tape in an animator's effort to realign the pegholes. Condition of the lot is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
