Atlantis: The Lost Empire Milo Thatch Employee-Only Limited Edition Cel #28 (Walt Disney, 2001). Crew members can be overheard saying, "Aye, sir. Set course to two-four-zero. -15 degrees down angle on the bow planes" as Milo Thatch gets acquainted with the submarine and crew that will take him to Atlantis. This is an employee only-cel depicting Milo from sequence 5, scene 3 of Walt Disney's 41st animated feature film Atlantis: The Lost Empire. We can see this image near the 19:05 time stamp. After production wrapped on Atlantis, WDFA cast and crew were allowed to select a limited edition cel from among 12 that were created exclusively for them. Because Atlantis was hand-drawn on paper that was then scanned, painted and composited via computer, there are no production cels so these limited edition cels were created to carry-on the tradition of giving each crew member a production cel. This cel is numbered 28 from an edition size of 39 cels. Hand-inked and hand-painted on 16 field acetate at Disney's Ink and Paint Department using the original production drawings and source material archived at Disney's Animation Research Library. It contains a Disney Feature Animation seal and comes with a Disney Certificate of Authenticity. The cel comes to auction from the collection of Peter Schneider. Schneider is widely credited as one of the new studio heads at Disney in the late 1980s to usher in the Disney Renaissance, creating some of the most critically acclaimed and highest grossing animated films of all time. Cel condition is Very Good.
