Atlantis: The Lost Empire Milo Thatch, Commander Rourke, and Preston B. Whitmore Employee-Exclusive Limited Edition Cel #23/63 (Walt Disney, 2001). "I see you got that journal. Nice pictures, but I prefer a good western myself." Professor Whitmore introduces Milo Thatch to the commanding officer for the Atlantis expedition, Commander Lyle Rourke, in this rare hand-painted employee-exclusive limited edition cel. The thrilling adventure film was digitally animated, so no cels were used in production. Still, the Walt Disney Studios Ink and Paint Department created limited edition cels to be exclusively distributed among employees who worked on the production. This fabulous image shows up at the 15:25 mark of the film, with Milo shaking Rourke's hand before beginning their fantastic trip. The 16 field-size cel is featured on a printed background, and it bears a Walt Disney Feature Animation seal in the bottom right corner. This cel was created in a very small edition of 63, with this cel numbered 23 in the bottom left corner. The lot is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. The piece is framed under Plexiglas with a mat window size of 16.6" x 7" and an overall frame size of 27" x 17.5". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Well preserved in the frame, the cel is in Fine condition.
