Description
Astro Boy "Dark Robot Hunters" Astro Boy Close-Up Production Cel Setup with Key Master Production Background (Tezuka Productions, 2003). "You've never lived as a robot, so what do you even know?!" Featured in this lot is an outstanding 13.5'' x 8.75'' close-up production cel setup of the beloved protagonist Astro Boy from episode 16 of the 2003 series, originally aired on 7/27/2003. The 2003 series was created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original 1963 animated series and the episode followed Astro Boy as he and his team tried to find the source abducting robots, uncovering a horrifying underground factory in the process. Astro Boy can be found at roughly 14:18 in the episode as he tries to convince the robot hunters - ironically robots themselves - to stop what they've been doing. This beautiful 2-layer hand-painted close-up takes up most of the cel at about 11'' x 7.5'' and is presented on the atmospheric blue gouache Key Master background from the scene. The background measures roughly 13.5'' x 10'' on 14.25'' x 10'' art paper and is noted 15 c-206 in the upper right. The cel is marked A5. Good to Very Good condition overall for this dramatic scene with minor edge and handling wear, faint scuffing, and the top cel partially stuck with minor paint debris.More information about Tezuka.
