"Beatles 3D" Yellow Submarine Limited Edition Cel #4/175 (United Artists/King Features/Apple Corp, 1999). Apple Corp released the animated Beatles feature film Yellow Submarine for the first time on DVD in 1999. It had the restored "Hey Bulldog" scene cut from original American prints. Apple initiated a massive animation art program to coincide with this film's release. One of the authorized releases was a hand-painted limited edition cel titled "Beatles 3D." It was a shadow box with two-layers of hand-painted cels against a Yellow Submarine print background. This attractive setup was an edition of only 175 pieces (this is low-number 4). The significance of this piece is that it was hand-signed by Beatles producer Sir George Martin (1926 - 2016). It is one of the very few "Authorized" Beatles pieces that he signed. He agreed to the signing because he was the composer and arranger of the instrumental score in this film. This long-sold out, hard-to-find cel features all four Beatles, the Blue Meanie with rose and, of course, the Yellow Submarine. An Apple seal is on the cel. Artwork is in a Plexiglas-front frame measuring 21" x 23" with a mat opening of 13" x 16". Frame is sold as-is. Cel setup condition is Very Good.Auction Info
