Lady and the Tramp Lady Production Cel and Master Background (Walt Disney, 1955). In 1937, storyman Joe Grant invited Walt Disney over to his house for dinner. While they ate, Joe showed Walt a drawing he'd made of his pet springer spaniel, who was also named Lady. Walt loved the drawing and suggested that Joe make a storyboard out of it. Joe Grant put together a pitch for a new animated film, simply titled Lady. Offered in this lot is a wonderful production cel featuring Lady. You will find this image around the 20:03 time mark in the film. The cel was hand-inked and hand-painted on 16 field acetate and paired with a Master pan background. The background was rendered in gouache on background board of 27" x 12". You can see this background at the 19:00 time mark when Trusty and Jock come to visit Lady. The background is noted as sequence 1, scene 68. The piece is in a matboard measuring 31" x 16" with an aperture of 25" x 9". Hand-painted backgrounds from Lady and the Tramp are highly sought after. Beautifully painted by a background team that included Claude Coats, Dick Anthony, Ralph Hulett, Al Dempster, Thelma Witmer, Eyvind Earle, Jimi Trout, Ray Huffine, and Brice Mack. Mild production handling wear. Condition is Very Good.
