Lady and the Tramp First Edition Book with Dust Jacket and Walt Disney Signature (Walt Disney/Simon and Schuster, 1953). The "Lady and Tramp" story development began in 1937 by Joe Grant. Walt Disney always thought the story was missing something, and it was worked on for years. Walt then read the "Happy Dan, the Whistling Dog" story in Cosmopolitan Magazine by Dan Greene, and bought the rights to this story. The plot line added new character Tramp, and then the storyline began to take shape. Author Ward Greene did a novelization of Lady and Tramp and the book was released in 1953, two years before the movie. The book had a forward by Walt Disney with artwork throughout the book by longtime Disney story man Joe Rinaldi. This is a rare First Edition published by Simon and Schuster with the rare original dust jacket. The title page is boldly signed by Walt Disney in blue crayon. It's a large bold verified signature measuring 5.5". This copy is from the Estate of film historian, journalist, and film critic for Time Magazine, Richard Schickel. Very Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
