Description

Katnip Kollege Original Title Card (Warner Brothers, 1938). In 1943 Warner Brothers re-issued many of its color Looney Tunes and Merrie Melody cartoons with a new standard title card featuring a Blue Ribbon and simple text. These cards replaced the original titles that were designed specifically for each cartoon. With the exception of a few restored 16MM films, most of those original title cards have been lost forever. In this lot is one of the vary rare survivors. Presented here is the original title card artwork for Katnip Kollege. The cartoon, which focused on the study of Swingology, was a parody of bandleader Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge. This hand-painted hand-lettered title card measuring 9.25" x 10.5" on 2-peghole board is especially unique in that the shorts title is made with cut felt letters to give it added texture and dimensionality. It is a one-of-a-kind piece and likely the only surviving example of how this theatrical short was originally presented to audiences in 1938. Minor handling and condition is Very good.
