DescriptionJohn Calmette Batman: The Joker's Apprentice Pages 2-3 Painted Original Art (Little Brown and Co., 1996). "This is Gotham City -- the most beautiful, but also most dangerous city in the world." This is an outstanding painting of the Gotham City waterfront. It was produced by long-time Batman: The Animated Series artist and background painter John Calmette. The painting was published as a two page spread in the 1996 Little Brown and Company book Batman: The Jokers Apprentice. Seen on pages 2-3, it sets the location for the story. A massive gouache painting on a 33.5" x 22" illustration board, it is one major piece of artwork! The reflection of Gotham city on the water has to be seen to be believed. John Calmette has hand-signed the bottom border.
This gorgeous piece is based on the visual look of the TV cartoon Batman: The Animated Series. Alan Burnett, Paul Dini, Eric Radomski, and Bruce Timm produced an animated Batman series like no one had ever seen before. It had great design, writing, acting, and music, and it went on to win four Emmy Awards and spawn many other animated series. This is one of the single most impressive pieces of artwork inspired from this groundbreaking show we have seen. A German edition of this book is included with the lot. The book is also hand-signed by the artist on page 11. With only some minor flecks in the image area, the original art is in otherwise Fine condition.
