Japoteurs (Superman) Airplane Layout Drawing (Famous Studios, 1942). After a very expensive move to new headquarters in Florida, and less-than-anticipated returns on Mr. Bug Goes to Town, Max Fleischer lost control of the studio he founded in 1921. His distributor, Paramount, took over the new building and renamed it Famous Studios, where many of the original staff continued to make Popeye and Superman shorts. The World War II-themed Japoteurs was the first Superman short released as a Famous Studios cartoon, and here's an original layout drawing of the "World's Largest Bombing Plane" in flight. We see this plane several times throughout the short (with a hidden Lois Lane on board), but this particular view from above occurs at the 5:10 mark in online viewings. The art is in graphite and blue pencil on a sheet of 16 field 3-peghole animation paper, with an overall image size of approximately 13" x 8". The drawing is loosely mounted onto a black backing board measuring 18" x 13". Minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition.
