Description

Walt Disney's Tonka Children's Little Golden Book Illustrations by Hamilton Greene Original Art plus Published Book Group of 3 (Walt Disney/Golden Press, 1959). Based on the book Comanche: Story of America's Most Heroic Horse by David Appel, this Disney live-action movie starred Sal Mineo as White Bull who captures a wild stallion he names Tonka. This superbly illustrated book featured art by Ham Greene (1904 - 1966) who was best known for men's magazine and pulp paintings and inked drawings. This group includes two very impressive illustrations: a two-page spread of Native Americans hunting buffalo, noted as pages 30-31, and a single full-page illustration from page 43 showing Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull in a night ceremony setting. The art is in gouache/watercolor with white paint on Studio brand illustration board; pages 30-31 have an approximate image size of 18.75" x 14" on a 19.75" x 15" board while page 43's image size is 9.5" x 14" on a 12.25" x 19" board. A copy of the published book comes with the artwork. The overall artboard condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear plus staple holes, an old paper remnant, and rubber cement stains in the outer edges, none of which affect the quality of the images.
