Walt Disney's Mother Goose Mickey Mouse Big Golden Book Wraparound Cover Illustration by Al Dempster with 2 Published Books (Walt Disney/Simon & Shuster, 1955). Mickey hitches a ride with Mother Goose in this incredible Big Golden Book cover illustration original art by Disney Legend Al Dempster (1911 - 2001). Mr. Dempster was a background artist at Disney off and on during the 1940s through the '70s; some of the many features he worked on include Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty. He designed more than a dozen Disney-themed Little Golden Books during the 1950s and '60s. The Disney Studios released three classic Mother Goose-inspired cartoons - the Silly Symphony shorts Mother Goose Melodies (1931) and Mother Goose Goes Hollywood (1938) plus the 1957 short The Truth About Mother Goose. This Big Little Book retells many of those Mother Goose rhymes, illustrated with Disney characters throughout. The art shows both the front and back, minus all type and text; the painting is in gouache on illustration board measuring 18.5" x 15" with an approximate image area of 17.5" x 14". The main portion of the front cover image was reused in 1952 for a similar book of rhymes published as a Little Golden Book. Copies of both the Big Golden Book, and a later reprint of the Little Golden Book are included. The art is in Good condition with eight small tape stains around Mickey and Mother Goose and a bend crease along the top right edge in the blue field. It's still an attractive and colorful painting that perhaps could benefit from some creative matting.More information about Walt Disney Studios - Fab Five.
