Description
Walt Disney's Bongo Big Golden Book Interior Illustrations by Edgar Starr Original Art Group of 7 (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1947). Bongo, the trained circus bear cub from Fun and Fancy Free is happy at last, in the outdoors and free from the rigors of performing in this sweet book with painted art by Disney background artist and art director Edgar Starr (1908 - 1971). Mr. Starr worked on such prestigious films as Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Song of the South but had a falling out with Walt and quit; reportedly, Starr tore up and buried all Disney art in his possession. Fortunately, this superb storybook artwork still survives, and here are the original gouache on skimmed illustration boards for pages 13 (Bongo smelling flowers, approximate image size 6.5" x 7"), 16 (Bongo's rest is disturbed by sounds, 6.25" x 7.75"); page 20 (mean bear Lumpjaw appears); page 22 (sad Bongo pedals away, 6.5" x 8"); page 24 (Lumpjaw chases Bongo, 6.25" x 8.25"); page 25 (Lumpjaw has Bongo cornered at the edge of a cliff, 6" x 8.5"); and page 25 (happy Bongo juggles pine cones, 6.5" x 7.5"). The artboards are in various sizes with an average size of 7.5" x 9"; two boards have clipped upper left corners that do not affect the images. The art is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.Auction Info
