Description
Tom Wood Good Housekeeping "The Delivery Boy" Donald Duck and Pluto Illustration Original Art (Walt Disney, 1938). Included in this lot is an impressive original ink-and-gouache artwork by Tom Wood, matted to 22" x 30" with four apertures showcasing Donald Duck and Pluto in the short story "The Delivery Boy." Created for the January 1938 issue of Good Housekeeping and later reprinted in the book Walt Disney's Mickey and the Gang (p. 155), the sequence follows the pair straining up a steep hill to deliver groceries-only to tumble back down amid sausages and splintered wagon parts. Not to be confused with Disney's 1931 Mickey Mouse short The Delivery Boy, nor the different, unproduced Donald Duck concept of the same title, this is Wood's narrative art. Beginning in 1934, Wood became a regular Good Housekeeping illustrator, adapting Disney cartoons from studio storyboards. Joining Walt Disney Studios in 1932 as a publicity artist, he soon led the department, producing stills; between 1937 and 1940 he supplied covers and illustrations for Mickey Mouse Magazine. Little is documented about Wood's early years, apart from a 1928 exhibition at L.A. Cartoonist Club. A terrific piece of original published Disney art. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
