Description
Tom Wood Good Housekeeping "Sea Scouts" Donald Duck, Huey, Louie, and Dewey Original Art (Walt Disney, 1939). "It takes real skill to man a boat. For Lesson Number One, you stay on shore and watch me sail! I'll teach you how it's done." Huey, Louie, and Dewy are quite sad to see their uncle Donald set sail without them in this marvelous original art created by Tom Wood (1887 - 1940) for the illustrated story "Sea Scouts," published in Good Housekeeping. This renowned magazine would regularly feature special stories promoting an upcoming Walt Disney cartoon, in this case, for the Dick Lundy short Sea Scouts. Wonderfully accomplished in gouache on an 8.75" x 6.75" board, this illustration shows Donald sailing away as his disappointed nephews stay on the dock. This picture is seen on the second panel of the story, just before Donald's misfortune starts! The full story can also be seen on page 205 of Walt Disney's Mickey and the Gang. Printed copies of the book cover and page are included for reference. The lot shows light staining and light handling, and edge wear from production.
