Description

Tom Wood Good Housekeeping "Donald and Pluto" Illustration Original Art (Walt Disney/Hearst, 1936). "When Donald Duck and Pluto do a job, they dress the part. For while they're somewhat short on brains, they're very long on art" goes the first verse in this Tom Wood-illustrated Good Housekeeping magazine page from September 1936. Oddly, the verse and images are completely different from the Ben Sharpsteen-directed cartoon that was released on 9/12/1936; in fact, it seems to have been inspired by that short's original theatrical poster instead! No matter though, as the art by Tom Wood (1887 - 1940) is fun, maybe even more fun than the cartoon! You can find the page as published in the book Mickey and the Gang on page 103; we've included color photocopies of the book's cover and page. The art is illustrated in ink and watercolor/gouache on illustration board which has been matted with five openings and framed with Plexiglas for an approximate overall size of 25" x 33". The gold-painted wooden frame is old with edge wear and nicks. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The art is in Very Good condition with minor flyspeck stains and mild age-related toning of the illustration board.
