Description

The Sesame Street Calendar: The 1980 World Games April Illustration by Michael Smollin Signed Original Art (Children's Television Workshop, 1979). Archery, field hockey, and cycling are on tap in this Muppet version of the Olympic Games of 1980. That was the year the US and over sixty other countries boycotted the Moscow-held games in protest over Russia's invasion of Afghanistan... we assume the Muppets decided there was room for them in the games! Roosevelt Franklin, Herry Monster, Grover, Guy Smiley, Cookie Monster (eating one of the round targets) Big Bird plus Bert and Ernie can be spotted competing in this super illustration by longtime Sesame Street artist Michael Smollin (1925 - 2020), magazine illustrator and animator. The art is in watercolor/color markers and ink on a sheet of board measuring 18" x 14.5" with an approximate image size of 13.5" x 12.25". A photocopy of the published calendar page is included for comparison. The art is hand-signed in the lower right and is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
