Description

Samuel "Sam" Armstrong She'll Get There Just the Same Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (Tacoma, Wash., News-Tribune, c. 1920). She'll also be "many millions of dollars ahead" in this brilliant and funny editorial cartoon from over 100 years ago. This enormous drawing is the work of soon-to-be Disney artist Sam Armstrong (1893 - 1977) and concerns a bill submitted in 1919 to provide a large system of paved state roads in Washington; it was voted on in 1920. Sam seems to prefer a "pay as you go" sentiment for one paved road at a time. In 2025, it's odd to think of any city roads that were not paved! Sam would go on to work on such Disney classics as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi after leaving Tacoma for California. The stylish art is in ink on a huge piece of Bristol board measuring 20.75" x 24.5" with an approximate image size of 18.5" x 20". The condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear, and a bit of mild age-related toning of the artboard.
