Description
Samuel "Sam" Armstrong Setting the Conflagration Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (Tacoma, Wash., News-Tribune, c. 1920s). Samuel Armstrong (1893 - 1977) created this large editorial newspaper cartoon over 100 years ago that touches on persecution of "Near East Christians" by fanatical Muslims with some help from Soviet Russia, lighting the "powder keg." Sam was a Disney artist who created wonderful background paintings on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as well as his work on such films as Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi. Earlier in his career, he was an art editor and founded an art school in Tacoma, Washington. His editorial cartoons were published by a Takoma newspaper, and this particular piece is in ink on a sheet of Bristol board measuring approximately 22.5" x 28.5"; the main image area is 20.5" x 25.5". The signed art is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear with small chips in the bottom corners, and mild age-related board toning.Auction Info
