Description
Samuel "Sam" Armstrong In the Proper Position At Last Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (Tacoma, Wash., News-Tribune, c. 1920). Henry Cabot Lodge was an old school Conversative Republican who served in the US Senate from 1892 until his death in 1924. This cartoon from soon-to-be Disney artist Sam Armstrong (1893 - 1977) takes a Progressive stance on Lodge, who served as the Senate Majority Leader in the 1920 Republican National Convention, but as far as we know, he was not considered a candidate for the presidential nomination. We must assume it's his viewpoints and objection to the League of Nations that inspired Sam to have Lodge in the "waste basket" here. Despite the politics, this rather enormous cartoon panel makes for a humorous image, doesn't it? The art is in ink on a sheet of Bristol board measuring approximately 22.75" x 28.75" with an image area of 20.75" x 24". The title had been handwritten in the upper border area but erased and only very lightly visible. This signed art from over 100 years ago is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear plus mild age-related toning of the artboard.Auction Info
