Ralph Hulett's Little Red Book is a sunny, tongue-in-cheek original created for his Designer's Showcase Christmas card line. Hand-painted in gouache on a 15.5" x 8.25" illustration board and signed by Hulett, the scene places Santa on holiday at the beach-kicked back in a beach chair, sipping a cool drink and reading from his "Little Red Book," its cover neatly labeled "The List." Nearby, his reindeer romp through the surf, a playful counterpoint to Santa's calm as the bright sky suggest a warm coastal breeze. Hulett's hallmark color sense is on full display with impeccable graphic clarity. A distinguished Disney background artist, Hulett brought atmospheric richness to Sleeping Beauty (1959), Cinderella (1950), and Peter Pan (1953), while earning acclaim in fine art for his watercolor landscapes.
