Description
Preston Blair - Original Art "Woman and Puppy" Gouache on 15" x 20" Board (c. 1930s/40s). Charming original gouache on 15" x 20" board by renowned animator Preston Blair (1908 - 1995), featuring a seated woman gently posing with a playful black puppy. Blair's confident line and fluid brushwork reveal the animator's eye for gesture: soft washes define fabric and skin, while lively, inky accents bring the pup's inquisitive energy to life. A Southern California native, Blair animated at Walt Disney Studios on Fantasia (notably "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Dance of the Hours"), with additional work on Pinocchio and Bambi, before joining Tex Avery's unit at MGM, where he helped immortalize Red Hot Riding Hood. Brother to Disney animator Lee Blair and brother-in-law to stylist Mary Blair, Preston combined classical draftsmanship with appealing, cartoon-inflected design. Created outside his studio assignments, this intimate piece showcases the observational skills and rhythmic silhouettes that powered his on-screen characters. A graceful, vintage original by a foundational figure in American animation. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
