Description

Preston Blair - Original Art "Elegant Embrace" Gouache on 24.5" x 21.5" Board (c. 1940s/50s). Preston Blair's original gouache on 24.5" x 21.5" board presents an elegant embrace: a blonde woman in a vivid red dress leaning into a man in a gray suit, the couple ringed by soft pink blossoms. Blair's confident draftsmanship shows in the sweeping contours, expressive hands, and subtle tilt of heads; his painterly touches-feathered highlights, warm shadow notes-lend cinematic glow to a timeless romantic moment. An American character animator at Walt Disney and MGM, Blair (1908 - 1995) contributed to Fantasia (Mickey's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Dance of the Hours"), Pinocchio, and Bambi before joining Tex Avery's unit, where he animated the iconic Red Hot Riding Hood. Later, he helped define television-era animation at Hanna-Barbera and authored influential Walter Foster how-to books, culminating in Cartoon Animation (1994). This stand-alone fine art work, created outside studio assignments, distills Blair's hallmarks-clean silhouette, rhythmic gesture, and keen color sense-into a striking display piece. A lovely, large-format original from a giant of American animation and illustration. In Very Good condition.
