Description

Good Housekeeping "Mickey's Fire Brigade" Mickey Mouse Rough Layout Drawing (Walt Disney, 1937). Mickey Mouse tries his best to tame a frenzied firehose in this terrific original layout drawing, used to plan the illustration that appeared in the May 1935 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine, attributed to the skilled Tom Wood (1887 - 1940). An artist at the Disney Publicity Art Department from 1932 to 1940, Wood is recognized for his many contributions to this publication and for illustrating covers for Mickey Mouse Magazine. Due to the space limitation in the magazine, the Disney team opted for showcasing the basic premise of the short and the lively personality of its characters. This layout drawing shows Mickey holding tight to the firehose, done in graphite and measuring an image size of 5.25" x 4.25" on the 12-field two-peghole animation sheet, numbered 136 in the top right corner. The final image was featured on page 37 of the magazine and on page 53 of the book Walt Disney's Mickey and the Gang Classic Stories in Verse. A printed copy of the final page and the book cover is included in this lot for reference. Condition is Good with age-related toning, minor handling, and a faint crease along the center.
