Description
Dumbo Storybook Illustrations Original Art Group of 2 (Walt Disney, c. 1941). In 1941, Disney released its shortest animated feature - Dumbo - in an attempt to recoup box office losses incurred by the studio's last two films, Pinocchio and Fantasia. The storyline was pared down but not the lovely visuals, which were recreated for a children's storybook. Here are two of the original illustrations created by the studio for the book, and they are superb images painted in ink and gouache/watercolor with white paint highlights on heavy illustration board. The first is an image of Dumbo's little friend and helpmate Timothy Mouse, surrounded by grown elephants, which was printed in black and white; it has an approximate image size of 8.5" x 5.5" on a 12.25" x 9.75" board. The second is a full-page color image of the Big Top as seen from above, with circus wagons and small tents around it; the image size is 8" x 11" on a 12.25" x 15" board. Both painted illustrations are exquisitely rendered pieces of art that any fan of this animated film would love to own and display. The art is in about Very Good condition with mostly minor wear in the outer borders and slight age-related toning of the artboards.Auction Info
