Description
Donald Duck in Disneyland Little Golden Book Illustrations by Campbell Grant Original Art Group of 7 plus #D44 Published Book (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1955). "Hurry up, boys. Keep together. And stay right with me!" Donald quickly loses control over Huey, Dewey, and Louie in this children's storybook, originally issued in 1955 as a "Mickey Mouse Club Book" and later reprinted with a Little Golden Book imprint. Here are seven original illustrations from the book, all from the hand of Campbell Grant (1909 - 1992), an animator with Disney beginning in 1934. Mr. Grant later moved to illustrating Little Golden Books full-time after leaving the Disney Studio, usually on Disney-related titles. Included in this group: the Title Page art with Donald and the boys arriving at the park (approximate image size 4.25" x 3.5"); the Mark Twain Riverboat from page 2 (3" x 2.25"); Donald and the train conductor, page 9 (5.5" x 5"); a sad Donald on the train with the conductor, page 18 (noted on the board as 20, size 6.5" x 5.5"); a very sad and defeated Donald, page 24 (noted as 26, size 5" x 5"); Donald finally reunited with his nephews, page 25 (noted as 27, size 6.5" x 5.75"); and page 26, the last page in the book with Donald ready for his rocket ship "trip to the moon" (noted as 28, size 6.5" x 6"). Later editions of the book include pages not in the copy we have with this lot. All art is in gouache on Bristol boards of various sizes. A later Little Golden Book copy of the published book is included with the art which includes an inscription on the title page dated 1957. The art is in mostly Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear with some tack holes in the outer borders.More information about Walt Disney Studios - Fab Five.
