Description

Disneyland on the Air Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck Little Golden Book Two-Page Spread Interior Illustration by Samuel Armstrong Original Art plus #D43 Published Book (Walt Disney/Golden Press, 1955). As Mickey and Minnie begin the show, Donald Duck sulks (because his last-minute idea was rejected) and heads back to his seat in this stellar two-page illustration for pages 18 and 19. This Little Golden Book was issued as part of Disney's year-long celebration of the opening of Disneyland in 1955. Artist Sam Armstrong (1893 - 1976) was a background artist on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and worked as a director on Dumbo and Bambi; he also provided backgrounds on Ferdinand the Bull and the 1939 color version of The Ugly Duckling. This fantastic two-page spread shows the park in purple silhouette behind Mickey and Minnie, including Cinderella's Castle and the Tomorrowland TWA Moonliner Rocket. The art is in gouache and ink on a pair of conjoined sheets of illustration board with an overall approximate size of 19.15" x 12.25". The image stretched to three sides, with a size of 19.5" x 9". A published copy of the book is included with the art. The artwork is in Very Good condition with some minor handling wear and small stains well away from the image.
