Description
Busch Gardens "The Enchanted Laboratory of Nostramos the Magnificent" Original 39" x 15" Graphite Layout Drawing by Mike Hodgson at Landmark Entertainment Group (LEG, c. 1980s). This original graphite layout illustration was created by Mike Hodgson at Landmark Entertainment for The Enchanted Laboratory of Nostramos the Magnificent, the long-running live stage show at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Rendered in graphite on 39" x 15.5" paper and signed by the artist, the drawing depicts the richly detailed laboratory environment designed for the production. Staged in the park's Globe Theatre, the show mixed stage magic, large practical effects, animatronic characters, original music, and rapid scene changes into a family "spectacular." It ran for fifteen seasons and became a signature Busch Gardens attraction. The project originated when Busch executive Joe Peczi sought a replacement for the Catapult ride and commissioned proposals from magician Mark Wilson and Gary Goddard (then leading Gary Goddard Productions, soon Landmark). Goddard's cinematic, character-driven concept was chosen. The production starred an unseen sorcerer (Nostramos), his apprentice (Northrup), and animatronic sidekicks including a dragon and a raven. Hodgson, an illustrator and designer active with Landmark during the 1980s and 1990s, contributed architectural renderings and pitch illustrations. This early Landmark relic is a real prize for theme park collectors.
