Baltimore Inner Harbor and Pratt Street Power Plant Revitalization Project for Six Flags "Power Plant Live!" - LARGE Original Concept Art Signed by Disney Legend Herb Ryman - Gouache on 58" x 37" Board Created by Landmark Entertainment (LEG, 1983). This massive piece of concept art was created by Disney Legend Herb Ryman for the Six Flags Power Plant attraction in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Rendered in gouache on a 58" x 37" board, the artwork depicts the historic Pratt Street Power Plant illuminated at night, fireworks bursting overhead in a dramatic vision of the city's revitalized waterfront. Commissioned during the mid-1980s, the piece reflects Landmark Entertainment Group's bold plans to transform the decommissioned 1900s coal-fired plant into an innovative entertainment and retail destination.
The Six Flags Power Plant attraction, designed by Landmark Entertainment (founded by Gary Goddard and Tony Christopher), opened in 1985 as part of Baltimore's Harborplace redevelopment. Inside, visitors encountered immersive themed experiences that combined high technology, interactive environments, and storytelling. Landmark's work on the Power Plant helped solidify its reputation for groundbreaking attractions, later realized in projects like Terminator 2: 3D and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.
Ryman, famed for his Disney career, brought a signature sense of romance and grandeur to the Power Plant concepts. Personally recruited by Walt Disney, Ryman contributed to classics like Fantasia and Dumbo, and later became a central figure in Disneyland's design, creating artwork for Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, New Orleans Square, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the 1964-65 New York World's Fair attractions. His 1964 painting of New Orleans Square was later displayed at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. Outside Disney, Ryman was a prolific painter whose works were collected by luminaries including Cecil B. DeMille and the Barrymore family. His involvement in the Six Flags Power Plant brought "next-level" artistry to Landmark's ambitious project, combining theatrical flair with urban spectacle. Signed by the artist, this extraordinary piece is in Fine condition with minor wear-a remarkable artifact from both Ryman's storied career and Landmark Entertainment's daring contribution to Baltimore's Inner Harbor redevelopment.
