H.R.Pufnstuf Double-Sided Concept Art by Wes Cook (Sid and Marty Krofft, 1969). After designing the costumes for Hanna-Barbera's Banana Splits, Sid and Marty Krofft brought to television this puppet-driven series. They first used this concept for a show at the 1968 HemisFair's Coca-Cola Pavilion called "Kaleidoscope." They also designed the fair's mascot, called Luther. H.R.Pufnstuf premiered on 9/6/69 on NBC; a total of 17 episodes were produced. The series was shot at Paramount Studios, with the opening shot at Big Bear Lake, California. Here is one of the most fascinating items in this auction: the Wes Cook mixed-media original concept/pitch art for this groundbreaking show. It is hand-cut and hand-painted paper that makes up elaborate scenes that would be done with puppets in the show. There are TWO presentation pieces in this auction lot, each mounted to board and sandwiched between thick two-sided Plexiglas panels for a single two-sided display, with hinges for wall mounting on one end. One piece is titled "The Sweet Shop - The Candy Man and the Ants... and the Swiss Cheese Guards," while panel two has "Luther and the Keystone Cops in Rescue Racer...The Clock Shop in the Background." Bottom border reads "© 1969 Sid and Marty Krofft Productions Copyright 1969." Both of these historically important and extremely rare pieces are signed by prolific concept designer and artist in the field of themed entertainment, Mr. Wes Cook. This longtime WED Imagineer passed away in 2005. Very Good condition.
