    Description

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Whoville Christmas Tree Preliminary Painted Background (MGM, 1966). "He didn't stop Christmas from coming... it was already here!" This is a very rare preliminary hand-painted production background of Whoville with the returned Christmas tree in the town square, for the film's finale. It's painted in gouache on 3-peghole animation board measuring 14" x 10.5". While this piece did not go under camera, Maurice Noble's distinctive style can be seen in this painting. Background artists for this film were Bob Inman, Hal Ashmead, and Phillip DeGuard. This historic TV special was first shown on 12/18/66. Artwork of this type from this film is considered some of the rarest we have seen. Minor handling wear. Fine condition.
