How the Grinch Stole Christmas Grinch in Santa Suit Production Cel Setup Signed by Chuck Jones (MGM, 1966). "Then the Grinch put a hand to his ear, and he did hear a sound rising over the snow. It started in low, then it started to grow... But this -- this sound wasn't sad. This sound sounded glad!" In this key scene from the 1966 special How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Grinch poises himself atop a cliff to listen to Whos of Whoville as they despair about the theft of their Christmas joy. The Grinch is surprised to find, however, that Whoville erupts in singing! This setup is composed of two original, hand-painted production cels that depict the Grinch wearing his handmade Santa suit as he steps atop a snowy cliff to witness the results of his malicious thievery, a moment which can be found at about the 20:14 mark in the special. This brilliant, full-figure image of the Grinch measures about 4" x 4.5" on 12 field cels. The cels are marked in their lower right corners with 55 and 21. The setup is signed by director Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002), and it bears a Linda Jones seal on its lower left corner. This classic Christmas image is matted, with a matboard aperture of 11" x 8.5" and an overall mat size of 18" x 14". The cels are in Very Good condition, with minor handling and edge wear, including some minor line wear.
