How the Grinch Stole Christmas Grinch and Max Production Cel Group of 2 with Animation Drawing Group of 2 (MGM, 1966). "The Grinch got a wonderful awful idea. 'I know just what to do,' the Grinch laughed in his throat... 'I'll make a quick Santy Claus hat and a coat!'" This group depicts the Grinch and his dog Max in an iconic scene from the beloved 1966 Christmas special How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This special was the first animated adaptation of one of Dr. Seuss's books, and is has become a Christmas classic. When the Grinch realizes that Christmas is near, he decides he must take matters into his own hands to stop the holiday from arriving in Whoville. To do so, he sews himself a Santa suit so he can disguise himself as he infiltrates Whoville. This pair of images showcases the Grinch as he cuts a Santa-suit-shaped hole out of a red curtain, joined by his pup Max. The images come from the scene that begins at about the 7:57 mark of the special. The image of the Grinch and the fabric he is trimming measures about 3.5" x 5.75", while the image of Max being grabbed by the Grinch measures about 4" x 3.5". These two original, hand-painted production cels are set atop color print backgrounds for presentation. Also included with this group are the two corresponding original animation drawings for these cels. The drawings are rendered with graphite and colored pencil on animation paper. All four pieces are individually matted and framed with Plexiglas, with matboard apertures measuring 12" x 8.5" and overall frame sizes of 21" x 17.5". The cels and drawings are in Very Good condition, with minor handling and edge wear. The frames are sold as-is.
