His Mouse Friday Tom and Jerry - Jerry Production Cel with Key Master Background (MGM, 1951). Jerry seems to like island life, while shipwrecked Tom wants nothing more than to leave the cannibal-inhabited island that he washes up onto. This image depicts Jerry as he plays a beat on a drum to trick Tom into thinking that the local village he has just stumbled upon is full of cat-hungry, terrifying natives. This moment can be found at about the 2:47 mark in the Tom and Jerry short His Mouse Friday. This cartoon is rarely seen nowadays, as it contained stereotyped depictions of the island's natives. This original, hand-painted, hand-inked 12 field production cel depicts an enthusiastic Jerry measuring about 1.75" x 1.75" as he plays a drum in the natives' village. The cel is displayed atop its hand-painted Key Master background from the same scene in the short. The background is rendered with gorgeous detailed in gouache and watercolor on 12" x 10" background board, and it is marked as coming from Scene 17. Backgrounds from this short are thought to have been painted by Robert Gentle, who painted backgrounds for many classic cartoons including Tom and Jerry, The Yogi Bear Show, The Flintstones, Jonny Quest, and many more. The excellent piece is matted, with a matboard aperture of 11.25" x 9.5" and an overall mat size of 16" x 14.5". This piece is in Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear, including a jagged lower edge on the cel.
